Stump Art

These wooden discs are cut from various types of alien trees on my father’s smallholding in the Northern Province, South Africa. I was initially inspired to combine the bright colours and graphic style of pop art, with the very organic shape of the wood and texture of the bark .  They can be hung on walls to create any shape/form that the client desires. They have been turned on a lathe for a smooth, flat surface and then filled and sanded. I then paint images in acrylic and oil and finish off with a high gloss resin. They work best on dark coloured walls and the more there are the more effective they become. Images can be commissioned on request.
